#UNWTOElections:Know the Countries that Will Decide the Next UNWTO Secretary-General


The race for the next Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation has reached a crescendo with candidates still moving among member states with voting right, presenting them with their vision, aspirations and trying to court their support.

The term of office of the current Secretary General Dr. Taleb Rifai will end on 31st December 2017 and in accordance with Article 22 of the statutes and with rule 29 of the Rules Procedure of the Executive Council, the Executive Council will be required at its 105th session from the 9th to 12th May 2017 to elect a candidate who will be endorsed by members of the UN Tourism body at its 22nd Session of the General Assembly in Chegdou , China in September.

The List of voting countries for the UNWTO elections include: Azerbaijan, Zambia, Serbia, Angola, Bahamas, Bulgaria, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Mozambique, Peru, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Seychelles, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Tunisia, Flanders and Jamaica.

UNWTO’s membership includes 157 countries, 6 territories and over 500 affiliate members representing the private sector, educational institution, tourism associations and local tourism authorities
