Close to 100 ladies turned up to be auditioned for this year’s Miss Tourism Ghana pageant on Saturday.
Held at the Accra City Hotel in Accra, the hopefuls thronged the event venue with the sole purpose of making the final cut, and a chance to be crowned queen in the finals.
Director of Events and Operations for the pageant Mrs. Delphine Brew-Hammond said she was impressed with the turnout and the enthusiasm displayed by the ladies.
“…we saw some beautiful and very talented girls coming through and for the first time, we are going to get 20 girls and they’re going to vote among themselves, they will convince their friends to vote for them, then out of them, we take 10 to the house. It’s going to be a difficult task for the judges to select them because they are really pretty and talented”
While in the house, contestants will go through grooming to prepare them for the final showdown.
“The girls will go to camp in the middle of July and they will be there groomed all throughout till August 12 when they go to the National Theatre and then the Minister of Tourism crowns a new Tourism Ambassador” Mrs. Brew-Hammond added.
She further stated that the objective of the event is to groom young girls to have confidence in themselves and be ’empowered to empower other people’
Like last year, this year’s theme focuses on sanitation and the environment and according Mrs. Brew-Hammond, “we believe that when the environment is clean, the sanitation situation is changed, that is when we will have a fertile ground for tourists to come in.”
