Carnaval International de Victoria moved to October

The ‘Carnaval International de Victoria’ will now be merged with ‘Festival Kreol Enternasyonal’ as from this year.

Since it started in 2011, the 3-day Carnaval International de Victoria’ has been held every year, usually in April. This year however, the Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports, Idith Alexander has said that due to budgetary constraint and in consideration to views
expressed by members of the public, the event will now be held in October.

This merger will see, ‘Festival Kreol Enternasyonal’, which has been labeled as the biggest and most important event on the Seychelles cultural calendar extended from five to eleven days. It will be held from the 20th to the 31st October and will feature the participation of international delegations.

The announcement was made by Minister Alexander on the 3rd April during a Press Conference specially organised to formally present the action plans of her ministry and the various agencies under her portfolio.

During the meeting, concerns were raised with regards to the state of national heritage sites especially the Mission Lodge at Sans Soucis and Craft Village at Val des Pres in the district of Au Cap. In giving her response, Minister Alexander said work is set to intensify to upgrade the Craft Village in time for ‘Festival Kreol Enternasyonal’. She added that work on the Mission Lodge project should also be completed this year.
Also present during the Press Conference were the Principal Secretaries for the Department of Culture and that for Youth and Sports as well as the Chief Executive Officers of the six entities that fall under the portfolio of Culture, Youth and Sports.
